BRAVE, GREEN WOMAN
I'm Amu Urhonen, a Green candidate in the Municipal Elections this October in Tampere. I was born September 19th 1980 in Tampere.
Currently, I live in Tammela area. I'm a full time student, studying social politics in University of Tampere and theology in University of Helsinki.
I started political activity in 1997 in the disability rights movement in Finland. It didn't take long before I felt the need for wider actions.
So, in 2000 I joined the party stood as a candidate for the first time. Below, you can see a list of some my past and present positions of trust.
My priorities in have remained pretty much the same since I started. And why give up talking about such important issues?
Equality
Social diversity is a good base for a happy city. All people and lifestyles should be respected as long as they don't harm others.
Separating people into their own blocks because of their gender, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, disability or other character
will only lead to problems. It's vital to make our common Tampere inclusive to everybody. To me and my party, equality is a serious goal
and demands hard work to became reality. All decisions include an equality perspective if it is looked from that point of view.
Tampere needs an official commission to promote and supervise equality. We need an equality strategy paper including a proper
action plan to be adopted by every actor in the city. Discrimination should never be tolerated.
Accessibility
Disability, sexual orientation, language, religion or old age in itself is not a tragedy but all kinds of obstacles may be.
Accessibility is a question of Human Rights. It's not about moving, getting information, being an active citizen. All locations,
information and services have to be made accessible so that anyone can use them.
Democracy and open decision making
Too many decision are even today made in cabinets, hidden from the people, on questionable grounds. Some positive moves towards open
decision making has been done but still many are left in marginal. True democracy needs everyone. Diverse ways to make an impact should
be approved by the politicians level. More ways to truly communicate with the politicians and officials has to be developed and adopted.
Web services are one important part of them but not the one and only answer. What would be the best way for You?
Environment
Environment is the base for all life on Earth. Essential decisions for stopping the climate change are made in local level.
Tampere has to adopt the most ambitious environmental policies. This applies as well to traffic as to energy, recycling or anything else.
